Shrink

During World War II, Nazi scientists performed unusual experiments on prisoners. One of these prisoners discovers that he has the ability to shrink and grow in size. He uses these new found abilities to escape from the mental hospital where the experiments took place and gain his freedom.

Creation

Shrink is a 2D platformer developed by a team of thirteen students over the course of two quarters. Seventy students each pitched their game ideas to a panel of judges. In the end six games were chosen to be created. Students then divided up into the various teams so that they could spend the next ten weeks of the class working on the project. Each team was run like a game studio. Positions included executive producers, normal producers, programmers, designers, and artists.

My Role

For my part of this project I was as a producer and programmer. I had a key role in the development of the code base as well as the creation of documents related to design. I started out in a production role doing scheduling and organization. A few weeks into the project I had to switch over to the programming team to help get some coding problems sorted out. When all was said and done, I had designed the entire architecture for the game as well as the screen manager and collision detection. I ended up researching and implementing the separating axis theorem for our game's collision detection and resolution.
